Arua, Uganda – July 18, 2025 – Lenia Charity Kevin, a 23-year-old graduate from Makerere University Business School (MUBS) and former student leader, has won the NRM party primaries for the Vurra County Member of Parliament (MP) seat. She is now the party’s official flag bearer for the 2026 general elections.

Lenia’s victory is a major step in her growing political journey. She was previously a member of the National Unity Platform (NUP), but in September 2024, she crossed over to the National Resistance Movement (NRM). She explained that her move was based on a desire to better serve the people of Vurra County through existing government systems. “I can only do that by working with the government in power because there are systems and structures already created,” she said at the time.
As a former Vice Guild President at MUBS, Lenia has been active in leadership from a young age. She is also known for her philanthropy and motivational speaking, having founded two community-based organizations: “Doing it for Her” and “Doing it for Him”. These initiatives support young girls and boys with life skills and basic needs, such as sanitary pads for children in slum communities.
Her switch from NUP to NRM drew public attention, especially because she comes from Logiri sub-county, the same area as the current MP Adriko Yovan. While some see her candidacy as a threat to the incumbent’s voter base, Lenia insists she is not running against individuals—but to serve the people of Vurra and improve development through teamwork and unity.
On June 5, 2025, she officially picked nomination forms to contest in the NRM primaries, thanking her supporters and promising to represent the youth and people of Northern Uganda. Her campaign focused on youth empowerment, community development, and unlocking Vurra’s full potential.
On July 17, 2025, Lenia won the NRM primaries in Vurra County. Local radio stations, including Voice of Life FM, announced her victory, calling it a major win for young leaders in Uganda. Supporters celebrated her success, saying her early and active involvement with the community helped her gain trust and support.
Lenia’s move to NRM follows a pattern seen in other parts of Uganda, such as Omoro District in 2022, where over 100 NUP youths joined the ruling party due to dissatisfaction with NUP’s internal issues. Her decision has been viewed by some as a smart and strategic step to work within existing government systems and bring real change to her community.
As she prepares for the 2026 elections, Lenia Charity Kevin says she will stay focused on her goals: empowering the youth, supporting families, and ensuring that Vurra County gets the attention and development it deserves. Her journey from a student leader to a parliamentary candidate continues to inspire many young Ugandans to get involved in shaping their country’s future.
